Ever since the Japanese occupation, the fishing port of Shi-ti existed. There were only little plastic rafts catching Milkfish. It was expanded as what we see in February of 1959. The Shi-ti fishing port is a little but with complete scale fishing port in the area between Hua-lien and Tai-dong. At present it works mainly with sailfish. Therefore the little fishing boats equipped with spear launching pads are the specialty of fishing boat from Shi-ti. The port has also become the port with the highest harvest of sailfish among the nation. As an important city for whale-watching in the east coast, there is a landmark in shapes of whales and dolphins set in the entrance of the fishing port. The landmark is sculptured with a whole piece of black marble. It is with 6m of height, 2m of diameter. There are twelve whales and dolphins jumping and swimming around. They look all lifelike and full of vitality.
The Shi-ti fishing port locates in the Scenic Area of Shi-ti-ping of the East Coast National Park Managing Centre. It is a tourist fishing port with multi-functions. There are collections of photos of common whales and dolphins, the fishery operation and the introduction of fishing village for visitors to see. There are also facilities such as arch bridge, wooden plank road built along the face of a cliff, the pictures and sculptures of whales and dolphins and the pavilion for resting for the usage of tourists. Together with the scenery and topography of Shi-ti-ping scenic area, the visitors could have different things to see after attending the whale-watching. April is the month for flying fish to move about. The extra gain of attending the whale-watching excursion is the flying fish watching. Within a whole group of flying fish flying out the sea with their strong wings, the whole scene could be no less shock than watching the dolphins.
